Documents Required:
(a)An official certificate of cause of death issued by the local registrar of deaths or similar authority.
(b)A statement by the person authorized to prepare the remains, certified by an appropriate authority, indicating the manner and method in which the body was prepared and indicating that the coffin contains only the body in question and necessary clothing and packaging.
(c)A transit stating the names and age of the deceased person issued by the competent authority for the place of death, or the place of burial in case of exhumed human remains.
Copies of the documents required must accompany the shipment of the remains and copies should be given to the Chief Medical Officer or someone appointed by him for the purpose.
The outside of the coffin shall bear an immovable plaque or other appropriate marking in a conspicuous place, indicating the name, age, and place of final destination of the body.
The remains must be: (a)Thoroughly washed with an effective disinfectant, all orifices disinfected and packed with cotton saturated with an effective disinfectant and
(b)Wrapped in a sheet saturated with an effective disinfectant and placed in a hermetically scaled impervious coffin; or
(c)Properly embalmed and placed in an impervious coffin.
Where an enquiry is pending and the death certificate cannot be obtained, a copy of the coroner’s report, which must clearly state the cause of death, is acceptable.
