2006 independence messgae
consul general's message
honorable allen McGuire
consul general of grenada in new york
Nationals and friends here in the United States of America; as we celebrate our 32nd anniversary of Independence, let us reflect on the past 32 years. May we give worship and praise to God the Omnipotent, who has blessed us as a people, granting us resilience to cope with the spiritual and economic challenges of an unfriendly global environment.
We are indeed in the very last days, as we witness the unfolding of the Holy Scriptures (Matthew ch.24.). The landscape of our spiritual environment continues to deteriorate as laws have been enacted and continue to be enacted in the international community that is in direct contradiction to the oldest institution sanctioned way in the Garden of Eden; marriage. An issue, if allowed to take root globally would undermine our very existence here on earth.
There is no doubt that the spiritual climate of a country affects its economic and social well-being. "Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 14:34) for we must not be lovers of ourselves and of pleasure more than lovers of God (II Timothy 3: 2 4).
The fury of hurricanes Ivan and Emily must encourage us to discipline our disappointments. "It is not what happens to us, it is what we choose to do about what has happened that makes the difference in how our lives turn out."
Despite the hardships brought about by these two natural disasters, with the help of nationals here in the United States and around the world, friendly Governments and the resolve of our Government and people, we are rebuilding stronger and better.
Many of our citizens now have more beautiful and stronger homes; some of our machinery and equipment in our institutions have been upgraded to meet the dictates of technology.
The redesigning of our National Stadium indicates that it would be stronger with increased capacity. Our people are now more beautiful and stronger in body soul and spirit.
The rebuilding processes have yielded great results as the international communities continue to applaud our Government on the reconstruction of our beautiful tri-island state, Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, the Gem of the Caribbean.
While we have come a long way, we still have far to go, lets us therefore in the Diaspora here in the USA continue to rally around the Government and people in our home land under the theme for this year " Promoting Growth, Stability and Poverty Alleviation."
Happy anniversary.
