altNEW YORK, February 4, 2010 – For the second consecutive year the Grenada Independence Committee in New York held a tea party for senior citizens in the community on Thursday evening.

The committee, led by Derek Ventour, socialised with the seniors at the Bethany United Methodist Church in Brooklyn as part of the week of activities marking Grenada’s 36th anniversary of Independence.

In a brief address to the Tea Party, Consul General Derrick James commended the attendees for their sterling contribution to their communities in Grenada and New York.

 

“The young ones should remember we are only here because you (seniors) have paved the way for us,” said the Consul General.

altNEW YORK, February 1, 2010 – A United States-based Grenadian medical doctor has been awarded for his service to the Grenadian community in New York.

 

Dr. Roland Purcell was presented with the first ever award by the Grenada Consulate in New York on Sunday.

BROOKLYN, New York – The Grenada Independence Anniversary Committee of New York, in conjunction with the Grenada Consulate General, will be celebrating a week of activities marking Grenada’s 36th anniversary as an independent nation. The very exciting events commence on Jan. 30 and ends on Feb. 6, 2010.

ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, JANUARY 13th 2010: Grenada’s Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas has expressed sympathy and concern over the situation in Haiti, following the 7.0 Earth Quake that shook that country’s capital on Tuesday.
 
The Prime Minister said Grenada is putting together all available resources, human and material, to assist our sister CARICOM nation at the earliest possible time. The Ministry of National Security and National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) will coordinate the assistance.

NEW YORK, January 13, 2010 – Consul General James's statement regarding the earthquake in Haiti on Tuesday January 12th, 2010.
 
On behalf of the Grenadian Community in New York and the United States I would like to express our deepest sympathy for the victims of Tuesday’s earthquake in Haiti.
 
We are also saddened and concerned by reports of heavy infrastructural damage. Words cannot convey our sense of loss for the innocent victims. Our hearts and prayers are with them and the rescue workers who are frantically trying to save lives.
